The BS bullet consists of a tompack-clad steel shell, a blunt-ended core made of a hard alloy VK8 based on tungsten carbide and a lead jacket. The cartridge weight is 11.2 g. The bullet weight is 4.1 g. The 2.1 g core is made of VK—8 tungsten-cobalt alloy. The sleeve is lacquered steel. The round uses a steel penetrator instead of a lead core and is encased in a copper jacket. The projectile is reportedly made using a reverse-drawn design that allows for more consistent accuracy. It also features a cannelure at the base of the projectile that prevents it from spinning during firing. The M855A1 is rumored to be capable of penetrating up to 9.5mm of mild steel.
