Summary

Call in CAS and mortar fire missions as Game Master, with no aircraft or crews needed.

Official Workshop description

On-call fire support for the Game Master, with no aircraft to fly and no mortar crews to manage. Place a marker, set it up, and right-click to fire. Rounds land for real, with tracers, falling bombs, positional sound and real times of flight. Base game only, no other mods needed. CAS: Gun Run - an F/A-18F Super Hornet or A-10C Thunderbolt II on station over the marker - Weapons: the aircraft's cannon (20mm or 30mm), Hydra 70 rockets, APKWS guided rockets, Mk 82 bombs, GBU-38 JDAM guided bombs, and a show of force - Loadout per pylon pair (2 on the F/A-18F, 4 on the A-10C), with real ammunition counts. When everything is spent the flight calls Winchester and goes home - Strafing runs and bomb sticks along the arrow, or concentrated fire on the marker - Flight of two: a wingman repeats each run - The jet loiters, orbits round to roll in behind the arrow, dives, fires and pulls out, with afterburners and flares. You can wave off a run in progress - Show of force: a very low, very loud pass that blows up dust and pins AI down. Made for vanilla AI and also tested with CRX Enhanced AI - Time on station based on the aircraft's endurance, or unlimited runs CAS: Gunship - an AC-130 circling the marker - 20mm, 40mm and 105mm, in bursts or continuous fire until you cease fire - Fires from wherever it is on its orbit, so rounds come in steeply from the side. Reports arrive seconds after the impacts, as they would - Drag the marker to move the fire Mortars - Place a Mortar Position (US M252 81mm or Soviet 2B14 82mm, number of tubes), then a Mortar Fire Mission marker - Patterns: single, small, medium, large, creeping and combing - Real time of flight for the range and charge; tubes re-lay before firing on a new target Target tracking (new in 0.0.8) Place a Gun Run, Gunship or Fire Mission marker on a vehicle or character, as you would an attack waypoint, and it follows it. - Jets commit to their aim as they roll in, and can only correct as far as a real aircraft could, so a target that turns hard can escape. Unguided weapons are aimed where the target will be when they land; APKWS and JDAM home on it all the way in - The gunship's fire control leads a moving target. With nothing attached, it picks up a unit that drives out of the target area while it's firing - Mortars fire on where the target was when they opened fire, so a moving target gets away HOW TO USE 1. Open the Game Master content browser and find the markers under Systems (they don't show in the text search yet): CAS: Gun Run, CAS: Gunship, Mortar Position, Mortar Fire Mission. 2. Place a marker. Rotate it to aim a gun run or a creeping or combing pattern. 3. Open its attributes. On the Sortie tab choose the aircraft, loadout and time on station, then set Activated to Yes; the aircraft flies in. On the Fire Support tab choose the munition and pattern. 4. Right-click the marker: CAS: Begin Weapons Run, Gunship: Open Fire or Mortar: Begin Fire Mission. Wave off or cease fire the same way. Marker cues: the outlines show where rounds can land and the danger zone. Orange means firing, flashing red and white means impact in under 5 seconds, flashing white means the aircraft or mortars are repositioning. Hover a marker for its status, a live countdown, time left on station, ammunition and what it is tracking. The server decides every impact and applies the damage; each player's machine plays the aircraft, tracers and sounds. KNOWN ISSUES - The markers can't be found with the content browser's text search; use the Systems filter. - The A-10C uses the F/A-18F model for now. - Only the GM sees time left on station; players get no warning the aircraft is about to leave. - Markers saved in scenarios before 0.0.4 keep their old settings; place new ones. - Target tracking: place a Gun Run, Gunship or Fire Mission marker on a vehicle or character and it follows it. Rotating the marker keeps the target; moving it elsewhere releases it.
- Gun runs commit to their aim at the roll-in and can only correct as far as the jet could. Unguided weapons lead the target; APKWS and JDAM home on it.
- The gunship leads moving targets, and while firing it picks up a unit that drives out of the target area.
- Bombs, rockets, 105mm and 30mm impacts shake the camera of nearby players, arriving at the speed of sound.
- Bigger dust from the show of force.
- The hover tooltip shows what a marker is tracking.
